Hangar Models presents this magnificently detailed diecast model of one of the longest running bombers in history. The famous 7th BW's B-52s wore a tail stripe on which was superimposed the skull of the Texas Longhorn. Its two squadrons were primarily assigned to the strategic strike role, using the AGM-86 ALCM.
Designed to replace the piston-engined B-50, the B-52 Stratofortress was first operated by the United States Air Force on April 15th, 1952 and is expected to fly until at least 2040. This massive aircraft served during the Cold War as a nuclear deterrent, on bomber and reconnaissance missions in Vietnam, as a carpet-bomber in the Persian Gulf War and in Afghanistan and Iraq. The B-52 has a 185-foot wingspan, eight turbofan engines positioned in pairs, a length of more than 160 feet and a gross weight of more than 480,000 pounds, characteristics that earned it the nickname BUFF (Big Ugly Fat Fellow)
