Product Details

It was the Americans inability to cope with modern warfare that brought the development of the Lockheed C-130. When the existing piston-engine aircraft (such as the C-119 Boxcar and the C-47 Skytrain) could not fair against its contemporaries, the US Air Force issued a General Operating Requirement. In February 1951, Lockheed (together with other major companies like Boeing, North American, and Douglas) received the call. Lockheed responded through the first design of the Hercules, designated as the YC-130. Eventually, the plane developed into the C-130 and it was awarded the contract in July 1951. During its military service, the Lockheed Hercules functioned primarily as a troop and medical transport aircraft. However, some units were modified to fly as gunships or research planes and even as demonstration planes. In particular, some C-130 aircraft flew as Fat Albert for the Blue Angels demo squad of the USAF.

This handcrafted model is painted in the same paint scheme as the original and is painstakingly built from Philippine mahogany by our skilled craftsmen. Perfect as a gift for any aviation enthusiast and history buff!
