Product Details

The Convair B-36J Peacemaker was a strategic bomber designed to fly across continents, unrefueled, and unescorted, to deliver nuclear weapons from the US arsenal. Production of the B-36J Peacemaker suffered immediate delays; the piston-powered engines were already obsolete against mid 1950s supersonic jet technology. President Dwight D. Eisenhower took office in 1953 and proposed a new look at national defense. The US Congress funded the US Air Force B-36J Peacemaker; but mechanical failures, engine fires, costly maintenance, and production cost run-ups quickly deemed it a military spending debacle. The B-36J's slow speed made it an easy target for the 1950s Soviet MiG-15 jet interceptor aircraft. So in 1956 the mammoth B-36J was scrapped and replaced by the Boeing B-47 Stratojet. As the last of the Peacemaker line, the B-36J finally left Biggs AFB in 1959 and was put on display in Fort Worth.

This handcrafted model is painted in the same paint scheme as the original and is painstakingly built from Philippine mahogany by our skilled craftsmen. Perfect as a gift for any aviation enthusiast and history buff!
