Product Details

The Spooky AC-130 is one of the ground attack aircraft variants of the C-130 Hercules transport plane. Though the Hercules is developed by Lockheed, the conversion to a gunship and to a support fighter is done by Boeing. The AC-130U is employed by the US Air Force primarily as an aircraft for close air support and protection, mainly based at Hurlburt Field, Florida. The plane is quoted to cost as much as $190 million which makes one to assume that the plane is heavily tricked out. And quite frankly, it is. Compared to the earlier variants, the Spooky has an increased ammunition capacity and an improved fire control system. An interesting fact about the AC-130U is that it employs a combat system technology used in the 1990s. This gives it the capability to attack two targets at once. For such purpose, the plane is given the AN/APQ-180 long-range radar, an inertial navigation system, and a Global Positioning System. Under the USAF, Spooky experienced quite a lot of battles. The most recent would be the 2011 Operation Odyssey Dawn (or the Operation Unified Protector) which saw the AC130U fly to Libya.

This handcrafted model is painted in the same paint scheme as the original and is painstakingly built from Philippine mahogany by our skilled craftsmen. Perfect as a gift for any aviation enthusiast and history buff!
